Overheard on Dallas Sports Talk Radio Today

Posted by dedfischer on October 16th, 2008 under Football

Something to the effect of, BYU being a legit, good football team that was BCS caliber.  Per TCU alum Corby Davidson of 1310 The Ticket.  Nice plug there Mr. Davidson to make TCU look better than they are.  Seriously, what did he have to lose there.  No matter what the outcome of the game, TCU would look better.  That 35-10 loss to OU doesn’t look so close now.

  1. Whoops, this went on the wrong site.

  2. HenryJames said BYU would win and that my ratings were terrible because they said TCU would win.

Not that this should surprise anyone.

dedfischer – I turned away from the Ticket years ago. Except for Norm Hitzges the on-air chuckleheads on that station are sports idiots.

  5. Norm’s the only guy who talks sports and knows his shit. Everyone else is a bit as they like to say.

I like the Ticket for what it is which is some sports and some funny shit. I don’t take their sports opionions seriously. 103.3 sucks and the national shows don’t talk about anything I remotely care about most of the time.

Shock – agreed. Big media is killing radio, TV, and newspapers…. but that discussion is for another site. It’s very telling when people have to flock to the interwebs for sports and The Comedy Channel for politics.

  8. BYU — Buffoo Your Uncle; BYU — Bang Your Underaged Daugther …clap, clap, clap.

Geez, I guess banging your sister doesn’t actually make you a faster. With their win streak lately, I was beginning to wonder.

The BYU dud last night should once again show that rankings really don’t mean jack when your team doesn’t have the athletes and you have played a piss poor schedule. Their extreme lack of speed was exposed last night. I gotta believe that the rankings of most of the B12 teams have about as much fluff surrounding them as BYU’s did before they ran into a team that actually had some athletes.

Iowa State? Duh. Texas (the state) had a lot to offer the Big Eight, but not enough to eject current members.

Baylor is in because every conference needs a private school to avoid legal problems regarding open meeting/records/etc. et al. ad nauseum. See Vandy, USC, etc…

The real question is why Baylor over TCU?

TCU would have made more sense from a private school/TV Market perspective as would Rice. But neither of them draw numbers and there are millions of Baptists out there.

And then Ann Richards got involved.

I’m guessing you don’t know much about open records laws.

  22. “TCU has a good program. Refresh my memory… why weren’t they invited into the Big 12?”

We could always trade them for K State and not have to worry about buying new paint.

  23. Thanks for the interesting website. This is what most people are not aware of. I love your perspective. Well reasearched and quite an eye opener! …

    Prescient comment, Doc.

Doc, the turnovers seemed to do the trick – there were great big chunks of time when Mizzou didn’t even have to get into a half court offense.

Great to see Ramsey have such a good game and pretty stifle Booker. As Euclid said during the game, even when Mizzou doesn’t play well

Travis Ford spent the 2nd half channeling his inner Rick Barnes — lot’s of standing around on offense while one player tries to generate something off a ball screen — then taking a forced shot.

So the Big 12 goes 5-2 in Round One.

This is the worst coached team ever in Barnes era. Period.
Worst defense over the whole season,
Offense sucked big time and the bench coaching was horrible, ransom’s attitude was better then the coach’s overall this season.

So far on Day Two, no buzzer beaters, but there was the obligatory #12 over #5 with Cornell thumping Temple 78-65, but the Ivy League school was everyone’s “inside” pick for an upset. Still the day hasn’t come close to generating the action that Thursday had.

I wasn’t trying to say they quit. They just didn’t play hard a lot of the time. Lazy = lack of effort. Example, our transition defense was about 75% effort and 25% stupidity. We loafed down court a lot. The kids didn’t like to lose so they would fight back,

This the most disappointing team because our talent level is higher than those others.

The DGib/Buckman team was the least talented, barely, after the injury to LaMarcus and Tucker’s suspension.
