Big 12 NFL Win Trends

Posted by Scipio Tex on October 15th, 2008 under Football

An excellent piece of work from our friends at Atomic Teeth. I was invigorated by this work as much as a potion made of tiger penis drunk from a rhino horn. It’s stuff like this that will revitalize the economy of Blaine, MO until the next stool boom.

There’s a lot of stuff to consider here:

- Look at the win dominance of Texas/OU vis a vis the rest of the Dirty Dozen.

- Compare the 5 year win total on the final chart to the 10. The contrast is program momentum. Kansas, Missouri & Oklahoma State have it. Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas State don’t.

- Anyone else surprised that Texas Tech is #3 in wins in the 5 year view? I’m not. Mike Leach may crap his bed at the micro level from time to time every year, but at the macro level Tech never falls apart during a season. They are massive overachievers. You gutty men from Muleshoe!

Pick it apart and tell me a story.

Or better yet, it’s game week, you could just go over there and manufacture some false enmity between our fan bases. Here’s one Missouri fan’s half-hearted attempt at picking a fight. Dude, did you really just go Aggie and saw the Horns off?

That hurts us when you do that. As much as the upside down Horns.

Please don’t.

  1. A Missouri grad friend asked if Longhorn fans would give her shit if she wore black and gold.

I stared at her with a mix of bemusement and wonder.

  2. Haha – you’ve got to give us Mizzou fans a bit of a break here. It’s been a rather quiet and solemn week so far. If picking a fight is what it takes to pull people out of a stupor, then damn it, it’s worth a shot.

  3. If you wanted to pick a fight, you should have posted this picture.

  4. Now I’m ready to fight.

One more time before I start h4xx0ring

  8. Agreed.

I’m trying to post a pic of Tim Nunez.

For some reason, he’s just not showing up.

    Which … appropriate.

  9. God bless this site. It is truly delicious.

  10. This should be shown to every potential UT recruit and it should be titled “Texas prepares you for the NFL better than anyone else.”

  11. Because this certainly isn’t worth a main post, I’ll throw it in here. This is a quick look at the great start for several Big 12 teams. Here is a table showing where each school’s current team would rank in that school’s history if the season ended today. I found the chart entertaining for a couple of reasons, I’m sure one of them will stick out to everyone here. The list is sorted by current rating.

    School Rank
    Texas 1
    Oklahoma 4
    Oklahoma St. 1
    Missouri 2
    Texas Tech 3
    Nebraska 60
    Kansas 19
    Colorado 60
    Baylor 67
    Kansas St. 56
    Texas A&M 103
    Iowa St. 97
  12. Nothing says Missouri like coming off a bone-crushing, soul-sucking, mind-numbing defeat to find your season is still your 2nd best ever.

  13. This should be shown to every potential UT recruit and it should be titled “Texas prepares you for the NFL better than anyone else.”

In the Big 12. The Florida schools still rule the roost in that regard.

And, frankly, the post on AT is not to be used for the purposes you suggest. I won’t allow it. I just won’t.

Huck, what if it had been OU 45, Texas 35?

  15. What do you mean what if? If OU had won 45-35, OU would be #1 in my ratings and Texas would be #4. Texas would be #13 in the no MOV ratings, but #3 in the predictor-style ratings. The ratings would then have Texas by 7.5 or so this weekend over Missouri instead of 18 or so.

It would then be the #2 Oklahoma team ever and the #5 Texas team.

Sorry to not be more specific. I was looking at the all-time rankings. But you covered it all… thanks.
