1. This is Mack Brown’s 2nd best win, ever. You could make a case for #1.
2. This is the best Texas/OU game in the last 30 or so years.
3. Our October is tough but we just beat the best team we’ll play this year. We’re going to be in the conference title game. A win next week . . . let’s not jinx it.
4. The 2006 win was satisfying, but I don’t think anything can top this. I cannot say a bad word about anybody on the field. We are killers and we’re just going to get better.

OK, never thought I’d say this… but we are better conditioned than OU. We were still calling a lot of the same shitty running plays, but they were working in the second half when they were getting stuffed in the first. I think the loss of that OU LB was big, but the rest of their defense wore down. We didn’t. In a track meet that makes the difference.
Awesome awesome awesome win. One week at a time, though. I was drinking, yelling at the TV, and pacing for three and a half hours. I just told my wife, “Get ready to do this again next week.” Mizzou ain’t no pushover. Austin should be insane, though.

This is the game that established the new trend in the series. We are now on a 3-1 streak. OU is in the rut. THAT feels good.
Plus, it’s the first time since ‘99, and only the second time since in GD’s tenure, that the offense carried us to a win. I’m not ready to render a verdict on the defense’s performance, but I think it’s fair to say that the O won this game for us with the help of some timely stops by the D.
Wow. I thought we’d win, but I didn’t expect us to win like that. What a great feeling. I love this rivalry. It’s so much sweeter turning it around after languishing in misery for 5 years. And we’re set up to completely smoke those motherfuckers next season.

SuperCalifragilisticExpialidocious win!!!!!
My son and I were jumping around like crazy men for the last 5 minutes of the game.
Three of the last four vs OU. OU played a great game and is a very impressive team. Sam Bradford is an amazing QB and he runs great, too. Gresham was slower than I anticipated. The 52 yarder was completely the result of a broken coverage. It was amazing to see the UT guy (BTW, who was that, Earl Thomas?) come from all the way across the field to nearly catch him.
OU’s hurry up O was way more painful to UT than I would have guessed. Muschamp needs to figure out how to deal with that more effectively. The TCU coach said a mouthful when he said that his team played much better on D (vs OU) once the TCU coach stopped trying to micro-manage the game so much.
The hurry up (when run by a team that can easily do multiple looks) really forces the D to just man up some of the time (just like in sandlot ball). The horns’ O needs to hurry up more in practise to help prepare the horns’ D better.
Once the horns really started focusing on mainly throwing short passes in the 2nd half, the horns’ O improved tremendously. They were able to get in sync and hold onto the ball and it opened up opportunities down field.
Quan caught 9 passes for 122 yards. Ship caught 11 for 112 yards. Most of the passes were quite short but kept moving the chains and keeping the ball away from OU.
Colt was the master of the short passing game, hitting 80% of his passes against OU! The passes were short, averaging less than 10 YPCompletion. Ho hum, another brilliant day at the office.
Colt ran 14 times for 31 yards (2.2 YPC) and took some sacks where he should have dumped the ball off or thrown it away before he gets sacked. OU pressured him effectively with their blitzes. Our screen plays sucked for the most part. OU’s screens were awesome.
Can we stop running Colt so much and just let him run when he sees the opportunity? He is way too valuable as a passer to throw him into the meat grinder unnecessarily.
It was a great day for Greg Davis. He took two uber possession receivers, a 3rd down running back, a leaking offensive line (which grew mighty as the game progressed) and put up 38 points on OU. Well done, Greg!
I will say that throwing to Miller at the goal line was a case of temporary insanity. We have Cody Johnson, just mash the SOB in (which UT did on the next play).
I could have screamed (actually I did scream) at the two(!!!) running into the punter penalties. Don’t touch the friggin’ punter. It is hard as hell to stop the sooners and we are moving the ball well, so just set up the return. Completely idiotic by Mack and Akina (especially the second one!). I know the ref’s call was BS but no horn should have been near that kicker.
BTW, without that penalty, OU scores 28 instead of 35. Well done, Mr. Muschamp.
Kudos to Mr. Collins for 3 receptions and no fumbles.
Oh yeah, Ogbonnaya was amazing, again.
Parlin Hall said:

Just because he dropped it doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision. And him being pissed at himself and singlehandedly leveling two OU defenders on Cody’s TD run more than made up for it.

The defense forced 3 three-and-outs, stopped two 4th down conversions, one interception by thomas while the game was still contested (with another on the last play that appears to count in the stat books)- the defense did some shit. The bad first possession, the busted coverage that let gresham loose, the shitty running into the kicker penalty that kept a drive alive- the defense ate some shit, too.
Tack on the smothering run defense and the offense-altering pass rush and i didn’t see much today that wasn’t praise worthy, 3 items above aside. 400+ yards given up doesn’t usually leave a good impression, but damn if i wasn’t pleased with the showing.
Also, chase daniels just threw his 3rd INT of the night and lost his $50k bid for heisman. Texas is 6-0 and expectations for the season have just gone all kinds of crazy.

The argument against Miller playing TE to catch a pass on the goal line:
1. Absolutely no need to do it. Cody Johnson was doing great. Use the simplest approach that is likely to work.
2. Miller is a DT. That is how he spends his practise time. Practise time is limited by the NCAA and is thus precious. Don’t waste it on non-essential stuff.
3. Miller is brilliant at DT and irreplaceable. If he got hurt on a play like that, it would be unforgiveable. It is a stupid risk.
4. There is plenty of danger of turnover when you throw to a guy who does not catch passes for a living (so to speak). The guy might bounce the pass up in the air where it can be intercepted.
5. It is frivolous, mainly just a reward to a great guy. Fine, but do it in blowouts, not the OU game.
6. Defensive linemen tend to get worn out by the end of the game anyway. Why make them do any work that is not absolutely necessary?

BOOMER!… LOOSER!
OOOO! … WHOOO!
SOONERS IS A DISHONEST NAME, (DOUBLE ENTENDRE INTENDED) SHOULD BE THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA TEXANS (LOOK AT THEIR ROSTER)
OKAY, NOW THAT I GOT THAT OUT OF MY SYSTEM, I’LL TRY TO BE MORE CIVILIZED (IT’S TEXAS-OU ISN’T IT!)
YES, I AM YELLING!
OU, you should have won this game, strictly from an unbiased analytical viewpoint.
But you didn’t because:
A. You were out-coached.
and
B. We were just falt-out scrappier.
That was a beautiful thing!

What’s up with the time stamp? I got 12:06 am on October 12th.

For the entire second half, GD inserted Shipley at TE. A 190 pound TE. Davis thought that OU would be vulnerable to the short pass in the middle (presumably because the starting OU MLB OU was out by that point).
OU was holding on most pass plays. The Big 12 is FOS if it does not enforce holding better. That is one reason some Big 12 teams have difficulty in the bowl games: holding gets called more outside the Big 12.
Muschamp should jump all over the Big 12 refereeing office about this. On one play late in the game, Rack was literally tackled.

I agree that bat should felate Mack Brown.
I watched with my 82-year-old father on TV. He listened to Kern Tibbs back in the 1930s. So we’re a couple of fairly old guys yelling our heads off just like we did in 2005. We come and go, the Longhorns are immortal.
A question for those who were at the game:
Obviously we took away the long pass and had several plays where Bradford ran because there was no one he could throw to. What did the secondary look like down field? On TV you can only see where the ball is. Is there something about the coverage that was special?
I love college football. I love this team.

Then could this possibly be the reason behind all successful gimmicky spread O’s and super duper B12 QB’s, with the much ballyhooed gimmick and the super duper being in large part not much more than just mere, everyday, unglamorous, joe blow holding. Heck, maybe you are on to something, Kafth. Afterall, where would the B12 be without all these gimmicky high octane O’s and 80% QB’s. You would think with all the shatty D’s in this league, blatant holding would not really need to be a requirement. Na, I think you are being a bit naive on this one, Kafth. I don’t think the holding in this league is as outright blatant as it was in this particular game. I don’t see how it could be on a regular basis and still be considered a sport. Na, the holding and the level of it in this game is just inexplicable and your right -the B12 is FOS.

No, it was the explosion of OU’s OL by our defensive ends (which, not inconsequentially, made them hold or downright tackle us – UNCALLED – on almost every play) that didn’t let Bradford throw downfield.
Our DL is fucking amazing. The lines will win the big games. Mizzou, Tech, and OSU can’t compete. As long as the coaching remains at this level, we have no excuse not to be in the national title game.
Fucking excellent work, Texas!

I agree the line is great, but there were downs where Bradford had a lot of time but nowhere to throw. Maybe we were just great in man coverage, but I couldn’t see it on TV. I also couldn’t see if there was a zone defense.

It is in UT’s best interest that the rules be enforced rigorously both on the field and off.
The holding by OU was flabbergasting and I expect much the same at Tech.
Steven: I think the reason that the Big 12 has such great offenses is that Texas high school programs are producing bumper crops of QBs that are proficient at running spread offenses. Texas permits high school athletes to do the 7 on 7 competition in summer and this really helps these guys develop. Also, my understanding is that Texas has the best high school coaches in the nation (as a whole).
A lot of points were scored RRR on Saturday but it was not because the defenses were that bad, the offenses were just that good.
BTW, Florida hung 51 on LSU (a fine defensive prgram) today.

Lots of great moments in this one but if you tivo’d the game, watch Johnson’s second touchdown in slow motion. Watch Obi and the right side of the O-line decapitate, I mean absolutely obliterate, the blowu line. It was a thing of beauty.

RS -
Roy Miller took out his frustration about the dropped pass on that one. He made contact with the side of an OL and an Oklahoma DL head on at the 2-yard line. Both of the other two players ended up eating end zone turf. He just crushed ‘em.
