Is a Longhorn.
Hamilton is a five star recruit, ranked 5th in the nation overall and is the top rated small forward prospect in the 2009 class according to Rivals.com. He’s joining Avery Bradley, also a five star and the 8th rated prospect in the nation and Shawn Williams, a four star from Duncanville, ranked 64th in the nation. We already have a commitment in 2010 from Tristan Thompson, five star, currently considered to be one of the five best players in the ‘10 class.
Barnes is moving this program to the next level.

Also, I wanted to thank you for the kind words as

Trips,
Great work all year long. Love the passion. The fact that you kept writing these (even around the birth of a child), is fantastic, shows your commitment, and is a little freaky. :-)
I think you showed great restraint in this post. It would have been easier to “go off” on Barnes.

Purdue holds on against Siena…I missed it in my bracket, but I’m actually happy for them.
Missouri pulling away from Clemson (68-60) with 7 to play…knew I should have never bet on Oliver Purnell, even if it was against this Missouri team.
Amazingly, game of the day so far might be Wisco/Wofford – 2

That, by the way, was the best thing that’s come out of this basketball season. Knowledge of Magnus’ intimate familiarity with the service and cut-off threshold at Hooter’s as compared to BWW3. Hooter’s — worse food at a higher price than a titty bar, served with jean shorts, cheaper beer, and more stretch

It’s not Brown’s fault they made a bad call. It is Brown’s fault giving the ball up there. In his defense, he was in a pretty sick spot in the corner. Not in his defense, he is allowed to dribble and shouldn’t BE in the corner in the first place.

1 Gary Johnson F 6-6 233 So

Next year looks pretty cool but what about this year?
Is Dexter still pushing 300 pounds? Has Todd Wright finally met his match? I was really hoping that Dexter would get in great shape and turn into a monster big man.
It looks like we have two “new” guys coming in:
* Dogus Balbay (not really new but dnp last year)
* Varez Ward
Both are 3 star recruits. I hear that Dogus does not shoot too well outside. I don’t know much about Varez except that he is a shooting guard.
So who starts this year: James, Mason, Johnson, Atchley, and Abrams? Is there any way Barnes starts a 3 guard lineup again (since neither Mason nor Abrams is a true point guard)? Maybe Balbay (once he has completed his NCAA punishment) starts instead of Johnson. That would mean we have the same starting lineup as last season except replace Augustin with Balbay. Since Balbay is probably not going to be a big scorer, the other 4 guys will need to elevate their game quite a bit to make up for the loss of Augustin’s scoring.
Who plays a bunch off the bench?
The Big 12 media have selected OU as the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 basketball championship over UT and KU.

Dexter is actually entry #1 in Wright’s book of body realignment. I think his body fat went from around 40% to 15% under Wright’s tutelage. He’ll play around 295, but it will be distributed a lot differently. I think he gives us 15-20 great minutes a game.
Dogus isn’t a great shooter, but he can score the basketball inside the lane. He’s very athletic and should be a mature influence given his international experience.
Varez Ward is a potentially great defender that Wright and Barnes will mold into a stopper and four year guy.
Barnes will always intermix his program with these guys and the superstuds. The four year guys provide stability and a blue collar ethos that Barnes wants. I applaud him for it.
I wouldn’t worry about who starts or comes off of the bench. We’re going to go 10 deep and everyone is going to play.
My only fear is that we have one big man too many and that could lead to a transfer. Next year, some pressure is relieved with Pittman and Atchley graduating. I don’t think that considering a shirt for the odd man out is a bad idea.
Hard to find minutes at 4 & 5 for Hill, Wangmene, Johnson, Chapman, Pittman and Atchley.
Some think Gary could play some 3. I don’t see that against a real opponent.

Quick note on Dogus. He’s the type of kid that will develop into a great long range shooter in time. He’s got a nice midrange game already. He’s certainly no Doug Gottlieb. The list of average college point guards developing into dangerous long range guys is long and distinguished. So is my johnson.
Hurley, Hardaway, Bruce Dalrymple ;), Sherman Douglass, etc. But it’s not 8 am. yet and I’m drunk.

Scipio:
“Dexter is actually entry #1 in Wright’s book of body realignment…He’ll play around 295, but it will be distributed a lot differently. I think he gives us 15-20 great minutes a game.”
The goal for Dexter was 270. Todd has not met that goal and it looks like he has given up on ever getting Dexter to 270. I saw what Dexter looked like last year at 298, he lacked explosion, speed and stamina. He pretty much had to be used in a zone on D because he lacked the speed to play man to man. Maybe this year he carries the weight better.
Dexter has a special talent and if he could get in good shape, he could be an outstanding player.
“Dogus isn’t a great shooter, but he can score the basketball inside the lane.”.
OK, but we already have guys who can score inside. Pittman and Johnson live inside, and Atchley, Mason, and James will probably focus quite a bit on improving their inside scoring. It really helps an offense when the guard shoot well outside and don’t have to clog up the middle to score.
If Dogus does not shoot well outside, his defender can sink back. This not only makes it tough for Dogus to drive but it also means that Dogus’s defender can provide help out D on other horns.
Trips:
I would not be surprised at all if Dogus develops a good shot down the road but does it happen in the next 6 months? Maybe, maybe not. Having said that, the college 3 is an easy shot and if Dogus can hit an uncontested 3, that is probably good enough. If he can’t, that’s a problem.
“I wouldn’t worry about who starts or comes off of the bench. We’re going to go 10 deep and everyone is going to play.”.
