Wow! I haven’t anything new to add but I was really touched by your post, especially the sentence:

Great stuff. Best piece I have read on an old football player this year. Y.A. Tittle never won a championship with the Giants. Tittle went there in 1960, and was the qb in three losing efforts. Tittle did lose at least one game to Layne in the playoffs while qb for the 49′ers.
