MGOBLOG has this week’s blogpoll up here.
A few notes:
Ibas water bottle wrote a new blog post: The Fan Take network guest lecture series ago
Last week I asked Sailor Ripley and friends to come over and share some of their knowledge in our corner of the internet. As you can tell, I didn’t have the money to ship the 6 cases of Old English 800 to Fan Take world headquarters that they demanded so we’re stuck with links.

Seems like grounds for getting kicked the f of the team. Burglary? What would Stoops have done? What would Tom Osborne have done?

Interesting, NDS.
Seems like grounds for getting kicked the f off the team. Don’t you think? Burglary?
What would Stoops have done? What would Tom Osborne have done? Pretty sure what Mack would do.

Masoli, who had been mentioned as a potential Heisman candidate, will remain on scholarship with the Ducks.” —ESPN

He needs help with the X and 0’s of offense and needs to be more open to zone principles if he doesn’t have the perimeter personnel to play man2man.
All the rest of the stuff will take care of itself with wins. I’m watching the Big12 championship right now and no one’s saying Frank Martin

This time of year there’s a lot of teeth gnashing and hand wringing when a top team struggles or gets upset in conference tournament play. Keep in mind that are very good reasons for this all to common “phenomenon”. And it’s not because these great teams suddenly stink.

I could not agree more about the subject. You have to make the pass go somewhere else than the offense wants. If you can’t stop that, you have to change the angle of the pass. Anything to throw them off.
I said after Laettner’s shot and pretty much ever since, that guarding the inbounder should be

Farmer Ted that was very well said. I hope to be feeling that way again in the not too distant future. As for Nebraska I totally agree with your assessment. I have really enjoyed watching Pelini get that program headed back in the right direction. The Big 12 title game is

No worries whatsoever. Teams like kansas, duke, WVU, and Cuse have all struggled in the conference tourney. I think the close win is actually going to help OSU.
whoopsat, I saw that too. I couldn’t figure it out.

Hope to see you in the Big 12 Championship game. We’ll bring Greg Davis again but you can’t bring Suh.

Awesome play. Does struggling with Michigan in any way make you less bullish on the Bucks? Anything in that game from the Bucks that troubles you?

I wonder who had their bubble burst with the UH win. Conference USA has to be jumping for joy.

UH: First four-game win streak of the season. The only other three-game win streak was in December. Between the two, 10-13.
Listened to the AD on the radio postgame, and he never said a word about Penders.

Culminating in a first-round loss to Georgia in the SEC tournament, Arkansas basketball in 2009-10 was so disappointing that I have trouble even writing this article and re-living the season. But let us try to find a little closure.

Houston is all TP, and by that I mean Typical Penders. Shoot when you’re open, some decent trapping defense, but some terrible mental mistakes.

One of the two or three best basketball teams in Texas, the UTEP Miners are on CBS now playing against Tom Pender’s Houston Cougars. With John Calipari disciple Tony Barbee manning the opposing bench, the coaching mismatch in this game is stark, and eventhough UH is only down three as I type, so is

You never mentioned bunting with your best hitter up. Nice restraint.
I’m convinced this strategy implies Augie’s tacit approval of having Balbay and Mason on the floor together.
Great article as well. I’m pretty fucking happy baseball season is upon us.

It’s the time of year when we see a lot of “state of the program” articles. The off season is a natural time to reflect; it’s also a time when there’s nothing really going on so we turn to big picture fluffery to fake like we’re busy.
We took a shot this week at noting that

A couple of things:
– I think Alabama is pretty damn good, and we will find that out as the season goes along. It’s not nothing to hold Clemson to ZERO yards rushing, no matter how bad one thinks Clemson is. Something good is definitely going on here.
– I couldn’t begin to tell you at this point whether Tech will finish 42nd in the nation or 2nd in the nation, but I think that’s about the range of potential for them. I’m not convinced their defense was really all that much better the 2nd half of last season after O’Neill, or McNeill, or whatever the guy’s name is took over as DC – after all, we put up 59 on them in November – but if it really is all it’s cracked up to be, then they probably belong in the Top 10. If it’s the same old Tech defense, then they might belong in the Top 25, maybe. We’ll see.

I ranked Tech at #15 this week up from #17, I believe. That was mainly based on other teams I had ahead of them looking shitty, namely Clemson and Arizona State.

Clemson was wildly overrated already, but give 8 carries to the two best players in the ACC and you’ll look even worse.
I think very highly of Saban but Alabama is still a couple shady recruiting classes away frop being considered elite, IMO.
Tech also flies the I’ll-believe-it-when-I-see-it flag. I’m still not sure why they are supposed to be better now than they are any other year. That being said, they always stink up the joint against some patsy so I also wouldn’t worry about them.

We will have better handle on Tech after this. They are on the road to a Nevada team that has a very good, balanced offense.
