awesome JR69. awesome.

all in all, a good informative write up. even as a sooner, i am compelled to share that even switzer admitted that one former running back wanted to come back to play, but couldnt afford it. Billy found a way to the field the next season.

Good write-up, TaylorTRoom. I have one bone to pick--you're too forgiving of OU. Too many, e.g., "but let's give credit where it's due" notations. Reminds me of when I was in the Army, some fellow GIs and I were discussing another with a checkered reputation. One of the boys said, "No, he's a good guy--he never stole anything from me."

It's not the same thing.

At OU's core is a cheating, thieving heart, ready to spontaneously erupt when opportunity arises. A too-long history of that to be otherwise.

And to those that say "Yeah, but Texas cheats, too", just consider that Texas (UT) has many more alumni and much more money, so that if they decided to cheat, who could compete with them?

If no one has written a book about Darryl Shepard's recruitment, someone should. I was pretty young at the time, but as I recall the rumors were absolutely swirling. As in he received a car from more than one school swirling . . .

Austin informed, do you have sources for any of that, or is it just more Aggie myths (like Gill not already being on the football team as a varsity player)? I know Texas gave boots to Marcus Dupree (more precisely, we reported ourselves to the NCAA when he put them on and walked out the store, leaving the assistant to pay for them), but I had never heard of boots to Darryl Shepard (who signed with Houston).

Remember what they say about people who live in glass houses? Texas gave boots to recruits (example QB Shepard) paid players for work not performed (check outy State printing office payroll), provided cars, cash and ease of entry. While you hear that all schools have the same standard, players who were refused entry into other SWC schools, made it into Texas. Nock Nunnly (sp) , Houston Attorney, former All American never conducted an investigation of illegal activity that Texas didn't like (to the best of my knowledge). He did get caught on severaly occassions to be in error. While SMU did get the death penalty, Texas was placed on two years of probation, which they conveniently always seem to forget. Belo publications does the PR, Texas does the cover-up and the wheel keeps on turning.

How about just complaining that you misspelled Prentice Gautt's name (not Gauntt). There.

If you knew Professor Wright, you would know there was no straighter arrow in the quiver than he. I had several classes with himn in Law School, and cannot identify anyone who I hold in higher regard as a person of integrity.

Professor Wright was a fan of college football and was inordinately proud of his Legal Eagles intramural team. But he would have cut off his own arm before using his position on the NCAA Compliance Committee for personal satisfaction or to protect or promote Texas sporting programs. To suggest otherwise is a smear to his name and reputation.
