Congrats Horns – 2008 Big XII Basketball Co-Champs

Posted by Z on March 9th, 2008 under Basketball

The team seemed to cross the finish line with three flat tires, a steaming radiator and running on fumes but the are off to Kansas City as the top seed.

F the bejeezus out of this ‘co-championship’ thing. Texas beat Kansas. They should be the champs.

The refs missed 5 or 6 fouls on Texas. And I am a Texas fan. If I was OSU I’d be pissed.

I hear you, Woody. But there’s this.

If we’d taken care of our business in Lubbock, it wouldn’t matter. What’s more distressing is the shit games we’ve seen out of these guys vs. Tech, Nebraska and Okie State. I suspect Trips will opine on this. I think I’d rest these guys all week. Play the games, work the bench, no practice.

Someone PLEASE check Rick Barnes’ pulse. I’m pretty convinced he was in a coma for the entire game. Easily his worst coaching performance of the year.

  5. How so? Is it good coaching only if he’s screaming?

I mean, he can’t lay the ball in for AJ, or arrange for him to get better looks.

hey woody, you also lost by 13 to a mizzou team that’s the number 10 seed in their conference tournament… i’m not ignoring the fact that UT beat KU, but a 3point home win over a team with the same conference record doesn’t exactly scream that you were more deserving of the conference championship outright. that’s what the tourney is for. the regular season championship is just that – a reward for the team (or in this case teams) that played the best throughout the conference season. congrats to the ‘horns (although i would have appreciated the ‘pokes pulling that one out) and hopefully we’ll see you next sunday…

  7. “but a 3point home win over a team with the same conference record doesn’t exactly scream that you were more deserving of the conference championship outright.”

Well I guess that’s up for debate, but IMO, yes it does.

I wasn’t aware that margin of victory a factor in determining who was more deserving of a championship. Perhaps we should consider strength of schedule, or perhaps quality wins in either Texas would hold a distinct advantage over the Jayhawks.

Or the two teams could have, now just hear me out on this, met on a basketball court with the winner being the team with the most points after an agreed upon amount of time had expired….Nah, that’d be crazy.

or you know what would be even crazier? understanding that we’re talking about the big 12 conference regular SEASON championship… i don’t seem to remember there being a tropy and a title at stake when ut/ku played in that ONE game that the ‘horns won. i wasn’t aware that they handed out tropies for good non-conference wins, either. if that was the case, then the horns would have some nice hardware, thusfar.

however, i’m pretty sure i readily acknowledged that ku lost in my first post. along with the fact that over the course of the SEASON (that being the CONFERENCE season, you know the one for which this particular trophy was awarded) the teams, have in fact, played very similarly. one might even say they tied. contrary to popular belief, they both have the same CONFERENCE record and thus, are co-champions. it’s ok, it took me a while to grasp that one too…

I’m assuming all Jayhawk fans aren’t as easy to needle as you, but it’d be awesome if they were.

BTW, you do realize we’re taking over Hoops in this conference right? That we’ve engineered this from the very beginning even through such subtleties as moving the conference offices from KC to Dallas. It’s all a part of our grand plan to rule basketball in this conference and completely subjugate the old Big 8 powers. Heck, just look at baseball where we’re already starting to pry the conference tournament away from it’s historic home in Oklahoma City. Soon the basketball tournament will rotate through only the venues of Toyota Center, American Airlines Center and the Alamodome. It’ll be glorious.

Shhhh. Don’t fight it. Shhhh. It’ll all be over soon.

Sorry for the hiatus. It started with disgust as I watched us mail in the conference finale in Boulder.  I didn’t have anything to say about that game.  Then work got in the way and I missed the redemption game in the first round of the conference tournament.  The Kansas game, too.  I’m a rotten fan.

Perhaps as soon as next year. The NCAA has an “opt out” clause in its $6 Billion contract with CBS this summer and they have already asked for a Request For Proposal from any and all networks interested.

The current contract with CBS is backloaded — the network owes the NCAA $2.3 Billion over the next

    BigDuke,

You, as usual, are correct about the ACT score. However, that he decided to continue with his commitment to USC this late in the process and this close to an anticipated NCAA ruling is probably the bigger story. He had an out and still decided on USC. Just wondering aloud

Perhaps it’s all a coincidence, but Seantrel just got his ACT score this past week. Without a test score, a recruit is ineligible to sign with any school. I’m wondering how much of this was just a smokescreen on Henderson’s part.

I don’t buy that we HAVE to win this conference or the conference tourney unless KU is in an awful down year. That would be like someone other than OU or Texas saying that their football season was a failure because they didn’t win the Big 12 title. The owners of the Big
