Free at last! Thank God almighty, we’re free at last!

The Major has accepted the assistant coaching job at Texas.

The earliest it can be announced will be after 5 pm today because of job posting rules. But you will always remember where you were and what you were doing the day The Major accepted the job.

  7. does anyone know if major will actually have any input into the offense and/or play calling or will he just be allowed to teach the RB’s how to run two yard out patterns?

I can’t believe Brown would make such a stupid personnel move.

  9. The Statesman says he’ll get paid about the same as he did at Alabama. So he’ll either have much more input or be the highest paid running backs coach in the country.

  10. The Major Applewhite Cutest Quarterback Award goes to that player who, like The Major, best shows heart, talent, energy in the face of adversity and cute good looks.

  11. THE MAJOR!

  12. Seriously, I think Chad (of course) on Orangebloods summed up our collective reactions best:

“I am literally running around my office showing people my framed Major photo and screaming “He’s coming home!”"

  13. Does this mean ya’all will stop fellating VY on this site?

    Prolly not.

    Good hire.

  14. Stop fellating VY??? Hell, I still haven’t stopped fellating Earl Campbell.

  15. I trump your Earl Campbell with Roosevelt Leaks.

  16. if he’s half the coach you guys think he’s going to be, we’re in good hands

  17. Bobby Layne was unavailable? What does this mean for the SMU Class of ‘48?

I’ve been retained by The Major as a career advisor and I need a bit of help. Does anyone have any clever ideas how we can shrewedly usurp the OC position and ultimately acquire the Clapper’s throne to establish the reign of The Major?

  32. Greg Davis perhaps will be relegated to the coaching staff Milton by Mack’s efficiency experts.
    What’s happening, Peter?

  34. adison p. day, 1893….triple checkmate

  35. all joking aside, this is a pretty damn good accomplishment for being the youngest div. 1 coach in the country.

Prior to Alabama, Applewhite spent a season as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Rice where, as the youngest coordinator in NCAA Division I, he directed an offense that scored the most points (350) and gained the third-most yards (4,486) in Owls’ history. Under his guidance, Rice produced a 1,000-yard rusher, a 1,000-yard receiver and a 1,000-yard passer for the first time in school history en route to the program’s first appearance in a bowl game since 1961. The 2006 Rice offense produced a 109-point improvement in scoring over the previous season.

  36. I ain’t seen Major on youtube dissing dudes the way my main man Mustchomp’s got it goin on….Mack’s gettin soft and wetlike already all over again!

    And I am bullshittin…

Dayum, Mr. Mack-man!!!! Maybe you will be learned on how to walk on water before this gig is all over…nice one for the Program, the Alumni and fans, the Media, the internet buzz, general recruiting interest, and, of course, Major (a guy you may owe something to that has not yet been repaid)….

I have never seen such hoopla for a guy that has not accomplished nearly as much as the guy we have coaching D. Major might be a good coach and this may ultimately be a good hire but the real coup was on the defensive side of the ball.

Regardless, let’s applaud the man I have been very critical of recently for going out and makeing the necessary changes to his staff. This was sorely needed.

Maybe he will be consulted on the game plan and bring some originality to the offense.
