Is Colt McCoy the answer at quarterback?

Posted by HenryJames on December 4th, 2007 under Football

I’m not talking about his performance on the field although that is up for debate.

I’m talking about something much more important. Something that transcends the game of football.

That’s right. I’m talking about his taste in music.

The Statesman asked a group of Austin area athletes in different sports about what songs they find are the best motivators, ‘what they’ve got loaded on their iPods when they work up a sweat.’

McCoy was one of the athletes they asked.

He had two songs tied at the top of his list.

‘I Can Still Make Cheyenne’ by George Strait, and …

Wait for it.

‘She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy’ by Kenny Chesney.

she likes the way it’s pullin’ while we’re tillin’ up the land…
she’s even kinda crazy ’bout my farmer’s tan…

Are we still sure McCoy is the guy to lead the team?

I have always loved me some Heavy Metal. But I’m kinda ok with the evidence here that Country reigns supreme in small town Texas, and that farmers’ kids aren’t all listening to Gansta Rap like their some kind of oppressed inner city subculture, cause their not.

And as far as real toughness and Judas Priest songs go, I kind of go back and forth about Rob Halford. His favorite band was Queen and he did adopt Freddie Mercury’s leather biker look. So was he mocking metal fans, knowing they had no idea that this look was more Village People than Hell’s Angels, or was he really a tough son of a bitch, to have lasted so long as a gay man in a genre that really doesn’t appreciate that kind of thing.

I guess on this issue, I swing both ways.

  8. Big George Strait fan, myself. Good for him.

The tractor deal is just weird, though. I mean, a farm implement as a sex metaphor? Odd, that’s all I can say.

  9. Colt is not old enough to understand the sexual connotations of the song. He really just enjoys the tractor noises placed throughout.

Good team that took number 1 seeded Louisville to the wire in last year’s tournament. Start 3 seniors and two juniors, very athletic. Solid pass first point guard. Their leading scorer was player of the year in the conference.

Good club that plays multiple defenses.

colorado ag, Utah State is as athletic as Nebraska. You’ll be fine as long as they don’t go 16 for 31 from three.

Siena, on the other hand, is going to beat you like you stole something. Maybe not, but the Saints should win.

Great article Scipio. Also, thanks for the dime.

Looking at the Tournament futures market, Vegas is telling us what they think about Onuaku’s health. The Orangemen have the easiest region and road to the fianl four, yet they’re +700 to win it all, while UK and Kansas, teams with much tougher roads, are +250

    CJD -

Possibly. However, I’m telling you – the beauty of these intergame lines is that when you see that all-too-familiar big early game lead that you know will evaporate down the stretch as soon as the team starts regressing to their 3 point shooting mean, there’s some money to be made.

Last year in Vegas, Friday morning, stumble to the line at 8:30 to make my bets, put $20 on a four-team parlay on the four 9:00 am games, nailed it! Three of the four games’ spread was determined in the final 0:30. Walked away with $220.
