SMU looking at Greg Davis?

Posted by HenryJames on November 21st, 2007 under Football

That’s what the Statesman’s Kirk Bohls is saying.

According to Bohls, a source ‘close to the Longhorn coaching staff’ told him that Davis has been unofficially contacted by SMU about their vacant head coaching position. And by ’source’ he means Bill Little.

Davis has been with Mack Brown for 12 years now so it’s doubtful that he’s leaving for another coaching job at this point in his career. But if he did leave, a source close to Barking Carnival told me that the leading candidates to replace him would be Lynn Amedee, Major Applewhite and Watson Brown.

  1. Tease

  2. Ain’t gonna happen.

But…. if it did, you know he’d promote McWhorter.

  3. It won’t be Lynn. I still call him every January to remind him that I will kill him if he ever steps foot on campus again.

  4. Keep your eye on Steve Brickey.

  5. I vote for Duane Akina. He has made every Big XII offense look good.

  6. Larry MacDuff is due. Give him a slush fund and send him up to Dallas to resurrect the Pony Express.

  7. Ok the Lynn Amedee is a joke right? Please tell me you are joking.

  8. All of the universe is conspiring to bring back Major. It is his destiny. Feel the Force, Major. Saban is a flaming sinking ship. Get out while you can. Got to take those “close sources” with a shot of tequila.

  9. I told HJ that Lynn Amedee was off the record. Fucker.

  10. srr50 says John Mize is the guy.

  11. DeLoss is firing up the jet to Scotland.

  12. we should offer Charlie Weis

  13. Isn’t Bill Little “a source close to the Longhorn coaching staff”? Don’t we hear this bullshit about Davis each and every year about this time?

I will believe this is true when I can confirm it with my own eyes and ears.

  14. Predicable PR puffery.

  15. John Mackovic would be a perfect fit for those wine drinking Pony fans.

If Greg takes the job, maybe I can get an interview:

Gary Barnett stuck his hand in the air. If arrogance goes along with wine drinking……

  18. Rumor in Dallas is that Roger Staubach has offered to put Paul Johnson on his board (Staubach Companies) to augment the available dollars to bring him from Navy. Not who I’d hire, and interesting that Roger would want to move the best coach Navy’s had in decades, but….

  19. Lies! All lies.

  20. Our 2005 Broyles Winner made Gary Darnell, for one afternoon, look like the 2007 Broyles Winner.

  21. That’s actually two years in a row that Darnell has outcoached Davis.

It appears the NCAA intends to expand its annual basketball tournament to a ludicrous 96 teams.  Nearly 100 teams, competing in a single-elimination tournament to crown a champion.  March Madness, indeed.

Money is obviously the motivating factor here.  The NCAA makes cash hand-over-fist during tournament time, and there’s a certain simple-minded economic logic behind

I didn’t watch all the games you guys played all year but yesterday’s game seemed to me to hinge on the ineffectiveness of Sherron. really sad for that guy as he’s a baller. I think Ojanb Bob said this over at BC too. He just couldn’t get it done on either

Missed the point, but par for the course. I’ll go back to my developmentally challenged assistance home and cry.

Indeed, back on point. Any rumblings about anyone else on the take? Tiny and TMG had great panache’. They sounded like a Vegas show….

I agree the RG position will be the most interesting development of the Spring. Last year Okafor couldn’t drive block and couldn’t run in the open field on screen plays. If he’s not physically capable of losing weight and improving, I want to know who will replace him. Suh and McCoy may

I wish they weren’t playing Kentucky next. Same goes for #11 seed Washington having to play West Virginia.

Sucks that we are getting the two best teams left in the tourney playing in the Elite 8 possibly.

An already painful week turned excruciating for Carlo Ancelotti. After being dumped out of the Champions League midweek by former hero Jose Mourinho, Chelsea failed to rebound and dropped two valuable points at Blackburn. Manchester United edged Liverpool and now control the Premier League race.

A forlorn figure on the touchline, Carlo Ancelotti could

With Leach at the wheel I was expecting a 10 win minimum season with the guys this team has coming back in 2010. Now with Tubbs, Willis, and Brown running the show I’m in agreement it’s anywhere between 9-12 wins this year.

Very exciting to hear your take on the O-line ded, as

    No Kalin Lucas?

    No problem.

“Too Easy” has had his share of leg and ankle problems this season, and with two minutes left in the Spartans’ second round matchup with Greivis Vasquez and the Maryland Terrapins, he made an early exit.
