BCS Computer Forecast

Posted by Huckleberry on October 8th, 2007 under Football

There is going to be an uproar when the first BCS ratings come out, so go ahead and get ready for it now. There have been a number of upsets this year as we all know, so the computer ratings are going to be somewhat shocking to many people. The computers aren’t impressed by the name of your school or what you’ve done in previous seasons. I have compiled the current results in four of the BCS computer systems.

There are several things to notice. LSU is a consensus and dominant #1. Southern Cal has a shitload of work to do to get into the title game even if they win out. South Florida is the #2 team in the computers. Billingsley’s system sucks. Oklahoma is a fringe Top 25 team. This week’s game between OU and Missouri is huge. If Missouri were to pull of the upset in Norman then they would solidify their position as a Top 5 computer team.

Fringe Top 25? Come on. UT is legit Top 25, probably top 15, so what does that make OU? Ohio State and LSU will win out anyway and LSU will lay a whipping on them in Tiger Stadium South.

  2. Fringe Top 25 in the computers. Take a look. It’s a simple fact.

As for Texas, you are smoking dope and wishing on a star if you want to believe you beat a Top 15 team. We aren’t Top 25, not close. Oklahoma hasn’t beaten a good team yet this year.

  3. tim,

As much as I want to agree with you, Huck is right. However, the computer formulas as they stand right now aren’t terribly accurate. OU lost a game early, and they’re being punished for it right now. Statistically speaking, you can’t lose 1 game out of 6 and think a computer formula will like that when so many other teams are undefeated…especially in a system that puts W-L record on such a high pedestal. The computers are designed to be accurate on December 2nd, not on October 8th.

    In a nutshell: Relax.

  4. I guess we shouldn’t expect a Sooner to actually READ the entire commentary – and comprehend it – before objecting. After all, Huckleberry’s link, while offering the context for his “fringe Top 25″ comment, included tables and numbers and shit.

A&M 21st on the Colley poll (misspelled or unintentional irony?) just proves what BS – computers still can’t predict the weather, even the day before – “flash flood in Austin area from Eduardo – no wait, cancel that (with 1 hr advance time)…”
might as well use the chicken to pull names from a hat – works for stocks with a monkey also…
