Liveblogging the Mack Brown press conference – KSU

Posted by HenryJames on October 1st, 2007 under Football

It’s like someone died in here. Someone’s title chances anyway. Cleve Bryant has adopted an adversarial stance against the media and is dressed like Professor Griff of Public Enemy. Bill Little weeps silently in the corner.

General comments.

We are not used to losing around here and especially not like that.

We’re 5-3 in our last 8 games. You’d be surprised what we’ve gotten used to.

We’ve said since day one that coaches lose games, kids win games and that one goes back to me and us.

The press gasps. Suzanne Halliburton of the Statesman screams and then faints. Why does Brown hate naivete?

We have to be positive about the things we did well and make sure we correct the mistakes that were obvious.

God grant Mack the serenity to accept the things he cannot change, the courage to change the things he can and the wisdom to know the difference.

On the second half.

It seems like every time the kids would come back, there would be something that Kansas State would do to take it away and again give them credit for that.

‘It’s called acting coaching!’

On what he needs to do.

What you do when you lose, you go back and look at everything.

Greg Davis comes in to answer questions. The press places Kirk Bohls and Ed Clements in the back of the room to force Davis to answer questions underneath. Davis won’t look at the reporters in the center of the room and seems befuddled. He looks horizontally to his left and right for help. He begins to give a series of short answers, but the press has seen this before. They begin to finish his sentences for him. He looks at a sheet of paper in his hand that has a list of answers, but the reporters have changed their questions.

Davis will spend the offseason coming up with new answers.

Why does Brown continue to call these young men “kids”? Semantics, I know but its just one that bugs the crap out of me…

  2. Because the coaches come up with game plans fit for children.

  3. “What you do when you lose, you go back and look at everything.”

…except for the crony simpleton who’s been running your offense for the last 10 years.

Nice press conference…there went 25 mintues of my life I’m not getting back. Big elephant in the room that no one would dare to mention…lets talk about traditions of the OU game and how neither thinks about the possibility of being 0-2 in conference.

  5. “We have to be positive about the things we did well and make sure we correct the mistakes that were obvious.”
my god, the emperor truly has no clothes and no serviceable coordinators…

i am so proud that mack takes the blame for the losses and gives the victories to the children. god bless the beasts and the children…

  6. Have they discussed whether or not they will allow our DBs to be within 500 feet of Malcom Kelly this week? Or will they sit at a Applebee’s in Frisco and enjoy the game?

    mmmm Applebees.

  8. Brown did say that the $25,000 Bellmont spends watching the internet is focused on barkingcarnival.com. And other than his desire to try a Fletcher’s at the Fair, I thought that was the most enlightening moment of the PC.

  9. mmmm Fletcher’s.

“We have to be positive about the things we did well and make sure we correct the mistakes that were obvious.”

as for the less obvious mistakes…well, fuck it. we can’t coach everything, right?

shit, martling, i thought you had given up on listening to mack’s pressers.

  12. I would kill all of you for a Fletcher’s Corny Dog.

  13. I gave up listening when Mack ran out of material. Things weren’t funny anymore.

But when we recently started competing for the Fulmer Trophy and Brown’s skin began to turn thin again, almost to 2003 post-Black Saturday levels, I started tuning back in for comedic relief.

“We have to be positive about the things we did well and make sure we correct the mistakes that were obvious.”

So we are going to positive about Quan, I guess. Then we are going to correct the other 21 players and special teams, replace Davis, Akina, MacDuff, Mad Dog and Mack this week? Sounds like Belmont is going to be a busy place.

Glad to hear that we are going to correct all these things so soon. I thought we were going to have to wait years to correct these obvious mistakes.

  15. What’s the deal on Bragg? Is his Tivo broken?

  16. An island in Bali with no electricity sounds pretty good right now.

  17. It probably started to spark and smoke during the K-State game, much like our collective psyche.

  18. “An island in Bali with no electricity sounds pretty good right now.”

Can’t you just drive to South Houston?

  19. Get rid of all the coaches, but don’t fucking touch Madden. There’s something insanely fascinating about watching a morbidly obese man, with 25 lbs. of gold around his neck, attempt to run from the tunnel without drawing a flat line before he reaches the sideline.

  20. MadDog keeps his job but Matt Nader will never see the line of scrimmage. There’s tragedy for you.

  21. North Philly is actually my preffered Ghetto.

  22. I’m surprised he didn’t give his usual “well, we’ll work on fixin’ those problems in the off-season.”

  23. I stopped listening to Mack last year when at the boy scout fundraising gala the week after last year’s Kansas State game he went on a completely uncalled for slam on fans — people in the room giving money to the boy scouts, most Texas fans, and he starts spouting off about how he and the coaches decided not to make the road trip because it was too far, too cold and at night, how he turned the game off at half, sent himself a scathing email, then had to bite his tongue as he responded to himself, etc., etc. (the whole thing was his joking way of saying we’re just piss poor fans and this is his job).

The guy is worthless in front of a camera, his OC is even more worthless anywhere near a football field, and worse yet, they’re both untouchable.

  24. I’m stunned, I’m pissed, it’s ou weekend.

Triston. I doubt if it takes Kentucky off of Selby’s list. But while Wall and Bledsoe played well together, how would Knight, Selby, and Bledsoe play together? Kansas could be a very strong possibility for Selby.
